March 2020 Lecturer’s Note

We are now into Lent . We can make a mild sacrifice and reward ourselves at the same time if we don’t usually attend daily Mass . In all our Catholic faith , there is no substitute for the Mass .
If you’re retired , if you work a flexible schedule , try over the next couple of weeks to make it to Mass a couple of extra times a week . Then ask yourself , was it worth it ? Did I miss out on something more important ? If you work regular hours , try making the effort on Saturday morning . Bringing the family is even better . Simply coming into contact with other parishioners more often has its benefits . It’s so much easier to absorb all the Mass has to offer when there are 30 people in the church instead of 500 . The homilies become more personal . You’ll actually get to know the names of some of the people you’ve seen for years .
Unlike many religions , our churches keep their doors open seven days a week . Lent is a great time to take advantage of this .
