KoC Lecturer’s Note
For May and June, 2018

Dear Brother Knights,

As you may (or may not) have noticed, I missed issuing my Lecturer’s note for May.  We have been very busy downsizing from a 2-story, 4 bed room home and moving to single story, 3 bedroom condo with no steps.  As you can imagine, it has been a hectic time involving a lot of decisions.  It has proceeded quite well considering my health problems, and we are thoroughly enjoying living in the condo.  Now that we are slowing down somewhat, I have time to give thanks to God for all the support we have received especially from family and friends.

Here are some of the things that we are most thankful for:

• Furniture moving help from Brothers Martin Ohmes (with trailer), John Toman, Mark Clubb, and Scott Inman.  Their work gave us a much appreciated head start on the moving process
• Our grandson, Mitchell Jostes and his 3 college club tennis friends who drove up from Univ. of Alabama to spend a day moving more of our furniture
• Our daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Tom Jostes, who have been extremely helpful in all aspects of the downsizing and moving processes, and in preparing the old home for sale and in decorating the condo
• Our nieces and their husbands who helped by moving furniture and installing storage shelves in the garage
• Father Pontian’s homilies on Christ being “the Vine” on which we branches must continuously rely for spiritual support during good times and bad times;  and on how the doctrine of the Trinity gives us “Abba” the Father, Jesus the Son and Savior, and the Holy Spirit, the dispenser of graces
• And finally, a gradual improvement in my health condition due to dialysis and other medical treatments.

I think I should apologize for including so many personal items in my Lecturer’s note.  Please forgive me.  I guess my point is that we need to trust God in all that we do, including the mundane activities of everyday living.

Based on Father Pontian’s homily, I also want to re-emphasize the importance of treating the Sign of the Cross as a prayer made with deliberate reverence.  One suggestion is, when you enter the Sanctuary for Mass, dip your fingers in the holy water, look at the tabernacle, and say: “In your name Father, in your name Jesus, and in your name Holy Spirit, please give me the graces necessary to fully participate in this Holy Sacrifice of the Mass”.
